Abel R. Alvarado Sr. of Joliet, age 74, passed away in the comfort of his own home with his family by his side on November 26, 2025. He was born the son of Transito Alvarado and Felipa Rodriguez on February 12, 1951 in the city of Moroleón in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Abel worked hard throughout his life to provide the best of opportunities for his family whom he held so dearly in his heart. He worked as an employee of Kerr Glass for more than twenty years and owned and operated A. Alvarado’s Landscaping Services. He developed a love for baseball early on, as a pitcher. He took pride in the fact that he had seven different curve balls. As time passed, he tapped into his passion for the sport of baseball as both a little league coach in the Joliet area and as a Manager of several amateur baseball teams. He was proud to share his faith and kindness with the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was known by many to be friendly, honest, loyal, funny, kind-hearted, caring, intelligent, and the life of the party. He enjoyed planting, gardening, and maintaining his lawn and landscaping, as well as being an avid cornhole player. Throughout his life, he was known as a loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle.
He was preceded in death by his father Transito and his sister Guadalupe Alvarado.
Abel is survived by his mother Felipa Alvarado; his wife of fifty-one years Marie Alvarado (née Frausto); his children Teresa (Greg) Piskur, Angelica Dean, Abel (Amy) Alvarado Jr. and Guadalupe Alvarado; his grandchildren Gregory, Anna, and Tyler Piskur, Tristan and Gabrielle Dean, and Ariande and Alexander Alvarado; and his siblings Moises (the late Christine) Alvarado, Maria (Istorgi) Reyes, Rogelio (Rosalba) Alvarado, Eliberto (Elva) Alvarado, Jose (Maria Elena) Alvarado, Alejandro Alvarado, Audelia (Manuel) León, and Joel (Adriana) Alvarado.
