Abel C. Luna

March 9, 1941 — May 21, 2025

Abel Cintora Luna, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Residing in Moroleón, Guanajuato, Mexico, Abel later made his home in Joliet, Illinois, to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Abel was a hardworking man who continued working into his 80s, helping his son and grandsons with sprinkler system installations and supporting their irrigation business. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud grandfather who deeply cherished his family. He cherished his grandchildren; he would walk them to the park and push them on the swing util he was tired. Abel would hold them until his arms ached. He always praised them on all their accomplishments, and would slip them money when no one was looking. He introduced them to the “ding, ding” man and gave them their first paleta. He spent endless hours kicking the ball around in the yard and was their fiercest protector. Abel was known for his though and harden exterior, but if he loved you, you were blessed to see the big softy he really was. He was loving, caring and a big jokester. His smile was infectious and his undying love for his grandchildren will be our most treasured memory. Abel has a very large family and we are very thankful for his caring sisters, Maria and Gloria, who made sure to check on him with their devoted kindness. Abel was loved and our loss is great, but we are thankful he left this Earth in such a peaceful way.

Abel was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Luna and Beatriz Cintora de Luna, and his brother Jose Luna.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Maria Consuelo de Luna; his children, Abel (Tamie) Luna, Fernando (Tracy) Luna, and Marisol (Gustavo) Diaz; and his grandchildren: Austin Luna, Justin Luna, Gabriella Luna, Jacob Luna, Logan Luna, Samantha Luna, Denise Diaz, Lissette Diaz, Kristen Diaz, and Julissa Diaz. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Lionel Hernandez and Marisol Jasmine Banks; and his siblings: Ma. Teresa Lopez, Ma. Elidia Luna, Marciano de Jesus (Linda) Luna, Mariana Luna, Antonio (Carolina) Luna, Gloria (Juan) Perez, and Miguel (Rosa) Luna as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

A Celebration of Abel’s life will be held with visitation to be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL 60435 with prayer services to be held at 7:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
