Andrew “Andy” J. Matejcak Sr. of Joliet, age 93, peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 26th, 2025 at the Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County. He was born the son of John Matejcak and Mary Matejcak (née Hudec) in Joliet, IL on May 15, 1932.
Andy cherished his time as a lifelong resident of Joliet, a devout Catholic, and being married with the love of his life, Mary Evelyn. He left Joliet for a short time, joining the United States Airforce as an Airman First Class with the 301st Strategic Air Command stationed in Puerto Rico. After serving honorably, Andy began his teaching career at Elwood Grade School for four years. He then accepted a position teaching at West View Middle School in Romeoville, where he taught for twenty-nine years until his retirement. He was a dedicated family man, who dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He found great joy in meeting and socializing with people. He always had a smile, a story, and a laugh to share. Although gardening and tackling household projects were his most loved hobbies, he also had various pursuits throughout the years such as photography, bowling, and coaching.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary; his wife of sixty-one years Mary Evelyn Matejcak (née Orenic); his daughter Anna (Daniel) Ranachowski; his brothers John (Susan), Joseph (Ann), and Anthony Matejcak; and his sisters Cecelia (Andy) Partak and Mary Matejcak (in infancy).
Andy is survived by his children Theresa (Michael Aedo), Andrew Jr. (Kathleen), and Michael (Ricarda) Matejcak; his grandchildren Andrew III, Eric (Tricia Taddeo), and Brian Matejcak; and sister-in-law Shirley Matejcak. Numerous extended family members, friends, and loved ones also survive.
The Matejcak family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation to the staff members at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, and Willow Falls Senior Living Community for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations made in Andy’s name be directed to either Friends of Sunny Hill, Inc at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County, 421 Doris Avenue, Joliet, IL 60433 https://friendsofsunnyhill.com/ or Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care at 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 https://lightways.org/make-a-donation/ .
