Anthony “Tony” Banaszewski of McHenry, IL, age 72, passed away after a brief illness at Edward Hines VA Hospital in Hines, IL on June 1, 2026. He was born in Chicago, IL on March 27, 1954 to his father Thaddeus Banaszewski and mother Marie Banaszewski (née Passananti).
Tony was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He attended Saint Viator’s Elementary School before graduating from Gordon Tech High School and continuing on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Monmouth College. He also served his country honorably for more than six years, ultimately rising to the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps. His military experience taught him the value of mental and physical discipline. He used those habits to his advantage as he earned the status of First-Degree Black Belt in the Martial Art of Aikido. His military experience also taught him the value of service, not only to his country but also to his fellow servicemen and women. That is why he dedicated his career to the Veteran’s Affairs Administration, loving his work in the Purchasing Department at Hines VA Hospital. Above all else, Tony was a devoted and loving son, father, and brother throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thaddeus and Marie Banaszewski.
Anthony is survived by his daughter Christina Marie Banaszewski, his siblings Patricia (Paul) Hagen and Thomas (Angela) Banaszewski, as well as many extended family members, friends, and other loved ones.
