Crest Hill

Carl Raymond Schwab, age 75 of Crest Hill, IL, passed away at Endeavor Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL on August 30, 2026. He was born the son of Richard Schwab and Lucille Schwab (née Hritz) in Joliet, IL on January 31, 1951.

Carl was born and raised in the Joliet area and earned his bachelor’s degree from Lewis University. He met and married his loving wife, Susan (née Kelly), and together they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. They raised two sons and enjoyed watching their family tree grow bigger, stronger, and a little more entertaining with every new addition. Carl loved his grandchildren, Michael and Aubrey, endlessly, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching them grow.

Carl was a tireless provider for his family and worked for more than 30 years in the Planning Department at Caterpillar, Inc. While he took great pride in his career, he always made time for what mattered most—his family and friends. He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a helping hand or fix whatever happened to be broken. If he couldn't fix it, it probably couldn't be fixed.

Carl loved to laugh and was always ready with a joke—whether anyone else was ready for it or not. He was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand or being in the garage with an ice-cold beer(s) nearby, a few friends, and lively polka playing in the background. He also shared a very special bond with his son’s dog, Ellie. Although Ellie technically belonged to his son, she had clearly chosen Carl as one of her favorite people—and the feeling was mutual.

Carl’s humor, warm smile, and ability to make even an ordinary moment more enjoyable will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lucille Schwab (née Hritz).

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Susan Schwab (née Kelly); his children Craig (Renee) Schwab and Alan (Kate) Schwab; his grandchildren Aubrey Schwab and Michael Schwab; his brother Michael “Mick” (Lynn) Schwab. Many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and other loved ones also survive.
