Carol Mackey (nee Lightner) age 91 of Boynton Beach, Florida formerly of Crest Hill, IL passed away at Visa Connections in Delray, Florida.
Carol is survived by her 5 children, Debbie (David) Penegor, Ted Jr. (Chico) Mackey, Chuck (Celeste) Mackey, John J. Mackey and Cindy (Jim) Thomas. Daughter-in-law Jacquie. Grandchildren, Shelley (Ken) Aranas, Jake (Angie) Thomas, Katie (Eric) Neubert, Greg (Kassie) Mackey, Kevin (George) Penegor, Shaun (Elizabeth) Thomas, Matt Mackey, Jessy (Nick) Higgins, and TJ Mackey. Great grandchildren, Cecilia, Tate, Flynn, Oliver, Quentin, Brynlee, Grayson, Rowan, Hudson and Noah. Sibling, Doris (Russell, Deceased) Brown. Sister-in-laws Carolyn (Carl Deceased) Carlson, Esther Mackey and Marilyn (Bob, Deceased) Mackey. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Ted Mackey Sr., son Mike Mackey, Father, Edward Lightner, Mother and stepfather, Gladys and Rueben Carlson. Brother Jack (Rita) Lightner. Three sisters, Wilhelmina (Edward) Mahoney, Ruby (Bruce) Backstrom and Winifred (Bert) Jahneke. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Carol retired from the Will County Board of Review and moved to Florida in 1997. She was a member of St Ann Church, Crest Hill and was named Woman of the Year and served on many councils. Active in youth sports with her children and grandchildren. Active in politics for many decades. Proud graduate of Joliet Twp. High School, 1952. Involved in Crest Hill Lions Club and named Lioness of the Year. Avid bowler and golfer during her retired years. Served on many HOA boards in Florida.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 with the funeral procession departing the funeral home at 10:00 am for a 11:00 am funeral mass at St Francis Xavier, 2500 Arbeiter Rd, Joliet with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 23060 W Jefferson St, Joliet
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Vitas Hospice Center in Florida.
