Chad Michael Hornsby, 49, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away suddenly on October 17, 2026. His unexpected passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
Chad was born in Champaign, Illinois to Roy & Debra Hornsby (nee Fancher). He went to Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Illinois. Chad’s career began with his love of carpentry. For many years, he worked in his dad’s shop, building and setting up exhibit booths for trade shows. His hands-on skills and experience later led him to serve as maintenance manager for Elgin Sweeping at the BNSF railyard in Elwood, Illinois. Most recently, he worked in rental property maintenance at Hinman in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Chad’s favorite hobby was talking to anyone and everyone! He loved grilling, shooting guns and riding his motorcycle the most. He also enjoyed playing pool, camping and light gardening. Always willing to help, Chad was the handyman you could count on.
Chad is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rachel; daughter, Devin; and son, Benjamin; and the family’s beloved dog, Daisy. Siblings are brothers Marc (Jamie) Hornsby and Todd (Amanda) Leonhardt; his sisters Amanda and Alyssa Hornsby; and his niece and nephew, Zoe & Jaxon Hornsby. Also surviving are his brothers Steve Voss, John Voss, and Tony (Courtney) Tezak, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
Chad was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Dean & Deb (Fancher) Hornsby.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, Illinois 60435. Cremation rites will follow.
