Donald Joseph Barnhardt, age 78, has sadly passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Born on May 21, 1945, in Joliet, IL, Donald lived a life full of joy and laughter.
Donald was known for his jovial personality and his ability to make everyone around him smile. His wit and humor made him a beloved figure among his colleagues and friends. Donald's contagious laughter will always be remembered as a cherished part of his legacy.
Before retiring from Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Donald served honorably in the United States Army stationed in Korea. His dedication to serving his country demonstrated his strong sense of duty and patriotism. Donald was also a longtime member of the Moran A.C. in Joliet.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Barnhardt, his brother Edward "Bud" Barnhardt, and his sister Mary Kay Barnhardt. Their memories will forever be treasured as part of Donald's rich family history.
He is survived by his loving sister Bonnie Gerrettie and sister-in-law Janet (the late Edward "Bud") Barnhardt. Additionally, he leaves behind nieces and nephews: John (Kolleen) Barnhardt, Tony (Carolyn) Barnhardt, Cathy (Asim) Aslam, and Anne Barnhardt. Donald also leaves behind numerous great nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his family members, Donald had very close friends who brought immense joy into his life. Dick Dillon, Frank Baloy, Freddie and Miguel Arriaga and the Sunshine Boys were among those special individuals who remained by Donald's side throughout the years. One additional relationship that stood out above all was the bond he shared with his loyal feline companion named Chipper.
Donald Joseph Barnhardt will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His quick wit, warm heart, and kind spirit will forever be remembered and cherished. May his soul find eternal peace.
