Doris J. Ferlin

Doris J. Ferlin (née Vidican) of Joliet, age 92, passed away on July 19, 2025 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL. She was born to her father John Vidican and mother Teresa (née Gosack) Vidican in Joliet, IL on September 8, 1932.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL and a proud parishioner of Queen of Apostles Catholic Parish (formerly St. Paul the Apostle) since the inception of the Parish. She graduated from Joliet Township High School and worked as a secretary in the healthcare industry along with caring for her husband and four children. Nothing was more important to Doris than her family and her deeply-rooted Catholic faith. She was always warm and welcoming to anyone and everyone that she met on a daily basis, and the memories of her potica and apple slices will immediately cause mouths to begin watering.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Teresa; her dear husband of forty-seven years, Henry J. Ferlin; and her brothers Edward (Cecilia) Videcan, John (JoAnn) Vidican, and David (Maureen) Vidican.

Doris is survived by her children Marcia (William) Ferlin-Hutnik, Mark (Jodi) Ferlin, Gregg (Colleen) Ferlin, and Steven (Leslie Ann) Ferlin; her grandchildren Mary Elizabeth (Jordan) Carrero, Alexander (Lindsey Graham) Hutnik, Adam Hutnik, Natalie Ferlin, Nathan Ferlin, Zack (Rhiannon Davis) Ferlin, and Alli Ferlin; six great-grandchildren; and her siblings Richard (Darla) Vidican, Celeste (Nicholas) Minarich, and Donna (David) Salato. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and loved ones also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Queen of Apostles Catholic Parish, 18 Woodlawn Ave, Joliet, IL 60435 on Monday July 28, 2025 at 10:00 am. Doris’ cremated remains will be inurned after a Committal Service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421 later that same day on Monday July 28, 2025 at 2:30 pm. Any guests intending to attend services at the cemetery are asked to arrive no later than 2:15 pm.
