Dorothy Z. Albert, born on June 9, 1929, in Calumet City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at Silver Cross Hospital, one day before her 96th birthday.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Walerowicz and Frances Walerowicz (née Kolodziejski).
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, George P. Zager, her second husband, Stephen J. Albert, and her step-son, James M. Albert. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Violet Thorp, Paul Walerowicz, Gertrude Jarosz, Vincent Wells, and Celia Daniszewski.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Stephen A. (Kathleen) Zager and Thomas J. (the late Rosemary) Zager; and her step-children, Gerald S. Albert, Carole L. Reardon, Stephen J. Albert Jr., and John W. Albert.
She leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Laura Zager and Lisa Zager, and step-grandchildren, Dr. Cary Jenkins, Jamie Albert, John Albert, Michael Albert, Corey Sienko, Stephen Albert III, Julie Albert, James Albert Jr., Joseph Albert, John Albert II, Julianne Albert, Christine Sweeney, Cheryl Markley, and Crystal Waszak. Dorothy is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Dorothy graduated from the nursing school at Silver Cross Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She dedicated her professional life to the service of others, working at Silver Cross Hospital, Ceco Manufacturing, and the Joliet Correctional Center. Beyond her professional duties, Dorothy gave generously of her time as a longtime volunteer at Provena St. Joseph’s Medical Center and Morning Star Mission.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory St., Joliet, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Immediately afterward, a procession will continue to Resurrection Cemetery, 200 W. Romeo Rd., Romeoville, Illinois, where Dorothy will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dorothy will be remembered for her devotion to family, her compassionate heart, and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
