Edward J. Mavetz, age 96, passed away peacefully at Central Baptist Village in Norridge, IL on May 14, 2026. Edward was born the son of Frank Mavetz Sr. and Frances Mavetz (née Skufsa) in Ely, Minnesota on February 21, 1930.
Edward was the ninth of ten children born to Frank and Frances Mavetz. He served his country honorably from 1952 until 1956 with the United States Air Force. He earned a United Nations Service Medal, a Korean War Service Medal with One Bronze Star, a National Defense Service Medal, as well as a Good Conduct Medal for his many sacrifices made while defending our country. He ultimately earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from Marquette University (Milwaukee Wisconsin) and chose to use his advanced educational degree towards continuing to serve his country and his fellow military members, working as a Benefits Counselor for the Veteran’s Affairs Regional Office in Chicago, IL.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances, his nine siblings, and many other extended family members. He is survived by many extended family members, friends, and other loved ones.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on the morning of Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St. Joliet, IL 60432. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Immediately following Mass, we will travel in procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery for a Committal Service with Military Honors to take place at 1:00 pm. Any guests who choose to meet at the cemetery for Committal only, should plan to arrive at the cemetery no later than 12:45 pm.
