Elizabeth "Bettie" (Stalzer) Getson

Elizabeth “Bettie” (nee Stalzer) Getson, December 27, 1917 – October 28, 2022, age 104, passed away on Friday October 28, 2022 at Lightways Hospice.

Survived by her sons, Victor D. (Catherine Hartley) Getson and Ric (Karen Rocush) Getson; two grandsons, Alexander R. (Corey) Getson and Nicholas V. Getson; and one great- granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Getson.

Bettie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Victor E. Getson (2001); her parents, Frank and Anna (Simonic) Stalzer; her brothers, Frank “Frock,” John, Louis “Tuby,” Joseph “Jake,” Edward “Autsie” and William “Stud” Stalzer; sisters, Christine Stalzer, Ann Berg, Rose Hibler, Marie Zakrajsek and an infant sister at birth.

Bettie was born in the Joliet area and was a lifelong resident. She was an excellent athlete, excelling in baseball and bowling. During the “war years” she was employed at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant in various positions. With her sisters Rose and Mitz (Marie) a family tradition of making Poticias and Rushkies continued.

Bettie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend to many people and will be dearly missed by all.

We would like to thank all family and friends who helped Bettie in her last years.

Also a great thanks to Lightways Hospice and all its staff who took great care of our mom during her final months of life on earth.

A celebration of Bettie’s life will begin on Thursday, November 3, 2022 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery in Crest Hill. Visitation will be at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
