Evelyn Lucille Hackett of Joliet, age 90, passed away peacefully at The Alden Estates of Shorewood on June 30, 2026. She was born to her father Ira Gensler and mother Blanche Gould (née Raymer) in Rockford, IL on July 20, 1935.
Evelyn was born in Rockford, IL and spent time living in Joliet, IL, Oxnard, CA, and New York, NY as a child. She was blessed with two sons from her first marriage. After she met and fell in love with John Hackett, the two were married in Joliet and welcomed three more sons. Evelyn and John raised their boys in Joliet before moving to Naples, FL later in their life. In 2003, they returned to Joliet for the remainder of their lives together. Evelyn was an avid bowler, and was a huge supporter of her sons while they played baseball. She was fond of spending time with family and friends. Whether sitting around a table playing a game of Euchre or just going out for a nice meal with the family, Evelyn found joy in being with those she loved and cherished.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Blanche; her husband of 53 years John Hackett, her daughter-in-law Peggy Hackett, and her grandson David Hackett (in infancy).
Evelyn is survived by her sons David (Wanda) Bernard, Glen Bernard, Steve (Laura) Hackett, Dennis (the late Peggy) Hackett, and Kevin (Lauren) Hackett; her grandchildren Michelle (Brian) Kehrer, David Bernard, Brian Bernard, Heather (Pat) Newell, James Bernard, Stephanie (Brian) Pohlman, Natalie (Tim) Casey, Valerie (Matt) Hawkins, John (Will) Hackett-Miller, and Taryn Hackett; as well as nineteen great grandchildren, many extended family members, friends, and other loved ones.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at The Alden Estates of Shorewood and Family Home Hospice, for their wonderfully compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that any donations offered in Evelyn’s name be directed to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at https://alzfdn.org/donate/.
In line with Evelyn’s stated wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and her Earthly remains will reside in the protective custody of her loving family.
