Frances M. Hakey (nee Kararo), age 80, at rest at her home on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 with her loving family by her side.
Frances is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Hakey; children, Mark Hakey, Rick (Jennifer) Hakey, Madonna (Jason) Hamilton and Michelle (Patrick) Brown; grandchildren, Lauren (Brett) Stengele, Cody and Kennedy Hakey, Anthony (fiancée Whitney Scasny) , Dylan, Ty and Luccia Hakey, Dallas, Cameron and Gavin Hamilton, Francesca, Patrick III and Caturella Brown; siblings, Josephine (William) Petan, Joseph (Jackie) Kararo, James Kararo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucille (nee Senffner) Kararo; brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Kararo; and nephew, Douglas Petan.
Frances was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Joliet and a member of the St. Patrick CCW. She greatly enjoyed baking, making cookies and her specialty potica as well as cheering for the Chicago Cubs. She graduated from St. Francis Academy class of 1958 and the College of St. Francis earning a Bachelor Degree in Science. With her degree she worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a Medical Technician. Her greatest joy was attending all of her grandchildren’s events and being the best mom and grandma you could imagine. She was known to always send a card with a special message to her family and friends, never missing a birthday or holiday. She will be truly missed, especially her beautiful smile.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the caregivers and staff from Home Instead Senior Care for the comfort given to Frances over the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances’ name to the American Diabetes Association or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
A celebration of Frances’ life will begin on Monday, December 21, 2020 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. her nephew, Fr. Dominic Petan officiating. Interment will be held privately at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
