Francisco Martinez, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by the love of his family.
Francisco lived a long, full life marked by faith, laughter, and a deep love for family. A devoted Catholic, he carried his beliefs quietly and faithfully throughout his life. He was known as a true jokester—always ready with a laugh, a playful tease, or a smile that made everyone feel at ease.
He loved to travel, especially to Minnesota, Iowa, Texas, California, and along the Canadian border. Long walks brought him joy, as did visiting family, listening to music, and watching action-packed films. A proud rodeo enthusiast, Francisco also had a well-known fondness for dining at his favorite Chinese food buffet.
Francisco worked in agriculture and took pride in a life shaped by hard work and dedication. One could often recognize him by his signature look: a cowboy hat, flannel shirt, belt, and tan slacks—a reflection of his strong character and simple style.
Above all, Francisco cherished his role as a grandfather. He was the proud grandfather of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and he shared a special, playful bond with each of them. His warmth, humor, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Francisco was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cresencia Rodriguez; and his parents, Benito and Luz Martinez.
He is survived by his children: Martina Martinez, Francisca Martinez, Juan Martinez, Clementina Martinez, and Margarita Martinez; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
Francisco Martinez leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and family that will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
There will not be any visitation and friends and family are asked to meet at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 10:00 am at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N Hickory St, Joliet, IL with burial to follow at St Joseph Cemtery, 1500 N. Raynor, Joliet, IL.
