Genevieve Russ

Age 96 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Alden Courts of Shorewood.

Born December 31, 1926 in Joliet, Genevieve was a daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Mikulich) Russ. She was raised and educated in Joliet and graduated from Providence High School with the class of 1943. Genevieve dedicated her life to nursing and helping others and had a committed career as a registered nurse until retiring. She was a devout Catholic and life-long parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. Genevieve and her sister, Pauline enjoyed volunteering and helping with the Shepherds Table program through the church. Genevieve will be remembered for her selfless acts, generosity and genuine care that she took with friends, family and numerous others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her brother: Raymond (Shirley) Russ; nieces and nephews: Maryann Russ, Lois Russ, Robert Russ (Geralynn Rode), Christopher (the late Kathy) Russ, Jerome J. Russ, Suzanne (Michale Rizas) Russ, Daniel (Penny) Russ, Barbara Brownlee, Thomas Russ, Donna (Mark Hayes) Russ-Hayes, Carol (Alexander) Heredia and Michael Russ; great-nieces and nephews: Steven Brownlee, Mandy Hall, Dr. Pamela (Jay Mosses) Brownlee, Jennifer (Adam) McCue, Gregory Russ, Lauren Russ, Hannah Heredia, and Alexis Heredia, and great-great niece and nephew: Mia and Noah Hall.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Pauline; siblings: Pauline Russ, Frank (Loretta) Russ, Joseph (Isabelle) Russ, Henry Russ, Mary Russ, Jerry (Donna) Russ, and nephew: Joseph Russ, Jr.

Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The funeral will then process to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow and Genevieve will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Joliet.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Our Lady of Angels Nursing Home and Alden Courts of Shorewood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Genevieve’s memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
