Harold “Bud” Spreitzer, age 82, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home while surrounded by his loving family on June 20, 2025. He was born to his father Harold Spreitzer and his mother Mary Ann Spreitzer (née Matay) in Joliet, IL on March 27, 1943.
Bud was a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL, educated at St. Raymond’s Catholic School and graduating from Joliet Township High School. He enjoyed his years working as an outside sales representative for Barrett Industrial Supply in Joliet, IL. Bud was a baseball man through and through. Not only did he play as a youth and root on his beloved Chicago White Sox, but he also stayed active through recreational league baseball and softball, playing well into his fifties. After he finally hung up his cleats for the last time, he poured all of his love and knowledge of the game into his grandchildren. He was so proud to root them all on in their athletic and academic endeavors. He celebrated their wins as his own wins, and he lamented their losses with the hopes that he could feel their pain of disappointment for them. When Bud didn’t have a bat or glove in his hand, it was usually because he was busy holding his favorite rod and reel. He truly loved the time he spent fishing, and some of his favorite experiences occurred in the picturesque setting of Red Wing, Minnesota, where he visited with friends to drop a line in the water and relax.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mary Ann Spreitzer.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Marlene Spreitzer (née McTee); his children Kenneth (Mary) Spreitzer and David (Karen) Spreitzer; and his grandchildren Zachary, Kendall, Hannah, Ethan, Caitlyn, Matthew, and Nicholas Spreitzer. Many other extended family members, friends and loved ones, far too numerous to list individually, also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations in Harold’s honor to be directed to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431
