Henry L. Sterling of Joliet, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2025. He was born to his father Conway Sterling Sr. and his mother Mary Sterling (née Rue) in Spring Valley, IL on April 18, 1948.
Henry was a lifelong Cubs fan who cared deeply for his family and always worked hard to provide for them. He worked as a painter for Lozts Painting Company for many years. He had a great appetite and always enjoyed sitting down to a meal with the people that he loved. He enjoyed fishing in his free time, and always looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as the “grumpy old man”.
He was preceded in death by his parents Conway and Mary and his brothers Conway Sterling Jr., Jack Sterling, Glenn Sterling, and Jim Sterling.
Henry is survived by his devoted wife of twenty-four years Katherine Sterling (née Posey); his beloved daughter Melissa Sterling; his stepchildren Timothy Sweeney, Jennifer Sweeney, Kenny Sweeney, and Dennis Sweeney; his grandchildren Raquel, Angelica, and Donessa; and eight great grandchildren; his brothers Earl Lee (Jeannie McCombs) Sterling, Albert (Terri) Sterling, and Louis Sterling; and his sisters Sharon Stein, Betty Moore, Virginia Garza, and Gaylene (George) Harden. Many other extended family members, friends, and loved ones also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to assist in offsetting the unexpected costs associated with his passing.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded after the visitation, and his Earthly remains will remain in the protective custody of his loving family.
