Hugh A. O'Hara, Jr.

April 18, 1950 — January 13, 2022

Hugh A. O’Hara Jr., age 71 of Shorewood, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Naples, Florida.

Born April 18, 1950 in Chicago, IL, the middle of three children, Hugh spent his career working for ComEd, Midwest Generation and finally NRG in Chicago, Morris and Joliet. Hugh was most proud of his family; his wife, sons, and being head knucklehead to his four knucklehead granddaughters. He stayed active until the end, running, biking, swimming, and waterskiing. He always made it to every school and sporting event. A best friend to his Irish Setters’ Sligo, Major, and Blazer. Quick with a smirk and sarcastic comment, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years Kathleen (nee Buckingham), two loving sons who he was so very proud of, Hugh (Meghann) and Christopher, four fabulous granddaughters Rauri, Kelli, Margaret, and Kaitlyn, his big sister Maureen (Don) Bonistalli, little brother Kevin (Julie) O’Hara, his nephews Brian, Myles, and Sean, and numerous other cherished family and friends.

A celebration of Hugh’s life will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life at 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave (IL 59) in Shorewood IL. Per Hugh’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, 1 East Wacker Dr., Suite 1400 Chicago, IL 60601, in his name would be greatly appreciated. You may also go to JDRF websitel below to make dontaions.
