John R. Depratt, age 70 of Crest Hill, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born August 14, 1954, a lifetime resident of Joliet, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Davis.
John is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Depratt (nee Davis), son Tony (Maggie) Depratt of Plainfield, IL and daughter Sarah (Hans) Schefske of Snellville, GA. Grandchildren Dylan Schefske and Drew Schefske of Snellville, GA. Also survived by special in-laws Karen (Michael) Nebe and Bill (Linda) Davis. Survived by niece Samantha Depratt, and nephews John R. (Lisa) Davis of Franklin, TN and Brandon Oglesby of Joliet, IL.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dolores (nee Pularske); brother Joseph Depratt, Nephew Nicholas Depratt and sister-in-law, Patricia Oglesby.
Previously employed by EJ+E Railroad, Railway Industrial Services, TTX Company, Caterpillar, and First Student Bus Company.
Living a kind and loving life, John touched the hearts of all who knew him. John possessed a passion for fishing, often sharing the sport with his favored fishing buddy and father-in-law, Jack Davis. John carried a lifelong excitement for rock music and could always be found listening to Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, and Sammy Hagar. John was also a lifelong member of the Deer Creek Recreation Club (Lily cache) of Plainfield, IL and was a current member of the Will County Sportsman’s Club (Lake Will) of Wilmington, IL.
John will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to thank Father John Hornicak, the staff of Saint Joseph Emergency Care, the Lockport emergency first responders and Lincare Air, also a very special thank you to all of the family at Home Air of Joliet.
A Celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. The family invites relatives and friends to join them on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N Broadway St, Joliet, IL 60435 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following mass, with private burial at a later date.
