John S. Ukovich, age 84, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 19, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center.
Born on December 16, 1919 in Joliet and a resident his entire life, John was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served his country during World War II aboard the USS Edwards in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from International Harvester in 1981 as a mechanic.
John is survived by his wife, Bernadine (nee Ward) of 55 years; One son, Robert (Susan) of Joliet; two daughters, Joyce (Robert) Vicich of Joliet, and Mary Fran (Gary) Schild of Shorewood; 6 grandchildren; Jill (Michael) Breneman of Coal City, Emily (Brian) Petronio, Deborah (Robert) Zelinski of Joliet, Jennifer, Michael and Cory Schild of Shorewood; 1 great-grandson, Nicholas Breneman of Coal City; sister, Betty (late Charles) McCue of Westmont; and sister-in-law, Mary Likovich of Ottawa.
A life-time member of St. Joseph Holy Name Society and Joliet Rivals Club. A member of St. Francis #29 K.S.K.J. John was also an avid Euchre player.
Preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Frances (nee Centa) Ukovich; 5 brothers, Michael, Rudolph, Ludwig, Albin Likovich, Sylvester Ukovich; nephew, Robert Likovich.
A celebration of John's life will begin on Monday, December 22, 2003 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Church Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at Tezak Funeral Home (1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
