Joseph Raymond Ciancanelli

Joseph R. Ciancanelli of Joliet, age 80, passed away at Lightways Hospice in Joliet on May 9, 2025. Joe was born in Joliet on April 10, 1945 to his parents Joseph L. and Helen (nee Sternal) Ciancanelli.

Joe attended SS Cyril and Methodius Grade School and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1963 from Joliet Catholic High School. He served honorably as a Military Policeman for the United States Army while stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia from 1965-1967 earning both a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He earned his State of Illinois Barber’s License in 1970, working at Van Duyne Barber Shop, Stadium Barber Shop, Barcelona Stylists until it’s closing, and The Hair Center until his retirement. He enjoyed entering hair styling competitions, and won numerous trophies and certificates throughout his life. Joe was also a passionate musician and collector of guitars. He touched the lives of many Joliet residents during his eight decades as a member of the Joliet community.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Joseph L. Ciancanelli and Helen M. Ciancanelli (nee Sternal).

He is survived by his brother Gene Ciancanelli and his sister-in-law Maureen Ciancanelli (nee Larkin) as well as numerous extended family members, friends, colleagues, clients, and other loved ones who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in his name to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care and/or the Joliet Chapter of Pink Heals would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Monday May 19, 2025 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL 60435. Per Joe’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and his inurnment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood IL will take place on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at 10:30 am with full military honors. All guests attending the inurnment at the cemetery should plan to arrive no later than 10:15 am.
