Joseph Orlovich, Jr.

Joseph departed this life on March 30th, 2024 at the age of 90 at Sunnyhill Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife Josephine (Gioannini) Orlovich; daughter Marlo (Bartley) Perry; son Joel Orlovich; daughter Paula (Jon) Waller, and grandson Brice Waller. Joseph was born and raised in Rockdale and Joliet. He attended the Joliet Public Grade Schools and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1951. He left Joliet Junior College to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal at the age of 21. He was a graduate of Lewis University and DePaul University, earning a Master’s degree in Education in 1966. He taught at the Rockdale Public Schools and was a Principal in various schools (Keith; Lincoln; Raynor Park; Marycrest; and Pershing) in Joliet Grade School District 86. He was a member of the American Legion Harwood Post #005; Friends of Mount Athos; and St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Joliet. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mildred (Petkovich) Orlovich and his sister JoAnn Orlovich. Private Funeral Services were held at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. Burial in the St. George Garden at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church or Lightways Hospice. His family would like to sincerely thank Father Aleksandar Bugarin of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church for his spiritual care; the staff of 6th Avenue and the Activity department at Sunnyhill Nursing Home for their dedication and their kindness, especially Samone; Christina (“Irish”) Darren; Simon; and Vanessa, as well as Greta from Lightways Hospice.
