Lori L. Cherven (née Zazzetti), age 56 of Oswego, passed away unexpectedly in her home on June 24, 2025. She was born to her father Valentino “Deno” Zazzetti and her mother Donna Zazzetti (née Griese) in Joliet, IL on February 14, 1969.
Lori was born and raised in Joliet, graduating as a member of the Class of 1987 from Joliet West High School. She was blessed with a total of eight children through birth and marriage as well as two grandchildren. Even though she was often separated from her grandchildren by physical distance, they were never far from her mind and heart. She Facetimed with them regularly, and truly loved keeping up on their daily activities. She also loved to spend time with her daughters, and that time together was often filled with so much laughter that there was hardly room for anything else. She was an avid bowler, and shared her love of the sport with a number of her sons. When she wasn’t busy working as a cashier (most recently for The Home Depot) or with other activities, she relaxed in her downtime by watching a NASCAR race, playing games on her phone, or watching one of the many true to life television programs that she enjoyed so much. She and Tom were even able to visit the Chicagoland Speedway on occasion and watch a NASCAR race live and in-person, creating lasting memories that she often recalled fondly. Pepsi was her drink of choice, and Cancun, Mexico was her vacation destination. The beach was her happy place, and she never missed an opportunity to visit. She was also a wonderful caretaker to her many pets, but especially her four dogs and her aquarium of fish. Her family feels lost without her, and they know that she would do anything to comfort them in this moment if she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents Deno and Donna and her sister Diana Lynn Zazzetti.
Lori is survived by her husband of fifteen years Tom Cherven Jr.; her children Samantha (Joey) Sliwa, Mike (Stephanie) Cherven, Maggie (Anthony) Brockett, Daniel Cherven, Robert Brockett, Kevin (Allison) Cherven, Kevin Brockett, and Gabbi (Drew) Brockett; her grandchildren Peter Sliwa and Henry Sliwa; and her siblings Joseph (Cynthia) Zazzetti, Thomas Zazzetti, and Deno (Patricia) Zazzetti. Many other extended family members, friends, and loved ones also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family would instead appreciate any donations made in Lori’s honor to be directed to Trinity Services, Inc. of Joliet, an organization that was very special to Lori and her family over the years.
