Lori J. Mammosser

Lori J. Mammosser, age 56, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet.

Lori was a graduate of St. Raymond’s Grade School in Joliet and St. Francis Academy, class of 1987. Lori earned her associate degree in nursing from Joliet Junior College and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing. As a BSN, RN, Lori brought the same quiet steadiness to her work that characterized her personal life. She was deeply committed to patient advocacy and hospice care, treating those in her care with compassion, dignity, and respect. Her career reflected the kind of person she was - thoughtful, dependable, and genuinely caring.

Lori’s life was marked by a deep devotion to her family, friends, and her beloved dog, Sable. She carried herself with a gentle, comforting nature that put others at ease and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Those who knew Lori will remember not only what she did, but how it felt to be in her presence - calm, welcomed, and cared for.

Lori is survived by her beloved mother, Jean E. Mammosser (née Markelz); and her loving siblings, Mark (Wendy) Mammosser, David Mammosser, Brian (Albina) Mammosser, Gail (Michael) Fry, and Nancy Mammosser; treasured nieces and nephews, Joseph (Ashley) Mammosser, Jack Mammosser, Katie (Jesse) Severson, Elizabeth (Isaiah) Woodruff, Alexandra Fry, Nathan Fry; her adored grandnephews, Maddox Mammosser, Gavin Mammosser, and grandniece, Shay Woodruff; precious aunt, Joan Jerome; cherished longtime high school best friend, Lisa Karnezis; and many special cousins, family members and friends also survive. Lori’s friendships made from her previous careers at Empress Casino, Agua Caliente Casino, and Joliet Area Community Hospice (JACH) were a meaningful part of the community of people who knew her best. She valued the connections she made throughout her life, and those friendships will remain woven into the memories she leaves behind.

Lori is preceded in death by her beloved father, William J. “Bill” Mammosser; grandparents William J. “Bud” Mammosser and Alyce M. Mammosser (née Hutton), Anthony and Angela Markelz (née Kostelz); niece Emily Irene Mammosser (in infancy); godparents James F. “Jim” and Marge Markelz (née Hammel); and her treasured dogs Winnie and Sophie.

Lori will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the tenderness she brought to everyday moments, the compassion she showed to others, and the lasting bonds she formed with family, friends, and colleagues. Her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and caring heart touched countless lives. Her memory and her legacy of compassion and care will continue through the lives of those who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, and per Lori’s wishes, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Joliet Junior College Nursing scholarship established in Lori’s name C/O the JJC Foundation at jjc.edu/giving/give-jjc . Contributions to Lightways Hospice in Joliet and Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, would also be appreciated.

The family would like to thank the wonderful teams at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona and Lightways Hospice in Joliet for their devotion to Lori’s care in her final days.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM in the narthex of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave, Joliet. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Carl Markelz, O.Carm., will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. An Inurnment Committal Service at the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 200 W. Romeo Rd. Romeoville will immediately follow Mass. As per Lori’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
