Lourdes Hernandez

Lourdes Hernandez (nee Cruz), age 75, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

Lourdes was known for her outstanding cooking. She learned at a young age how to cook and care for her family. You could always find her in the kitchen preparing anything from a simple salsa recipe to her homemade tamales. If you ask anyone to share a memory about Lourdes it was most likely about food or never leaving her home hungry. If you knew Lourdes you could definitely attest that she had a genuine love for others and greatly enjoyed having company over to visit. Her family meant the world to her.

Lourdes is preceded in death by her father, Ernesto Cruz; brothers, Cornelio Cruz, Anastacio Cruz, Martin Cruz, Leobardo Cruz; and one sister, Dorotea Cruz.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Artemio Hernandez; children, Ismael (Cenorina) Hernandez, Fernando (Lariane) Hernandez, Artemio Hernandez Jr., Aurora (Salvador) Ramirez and Maribel Hernandez; grandchildren, Ismael Hernandez Jr., Jordan Hernandez, Alexus Ledesma, Lorriza Hernandez, Fernando Hernandez Jr., Salvador Ramirez Jr. and Anthony Ramirez.

A celebration of Lourdes’ life will begin on Friday, October 15, 2021 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Cremation rite will be accorded following mass and Lourdes will be brought home to Mexico at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
