Marie C. Shroba (née Pleski), 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a woman of deep faith and service whose kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched the lives of many.
Marie was an active member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for a number of years and was deeply involved in a number of clubs/organizations such as the Red Hat Society, Pinochle club, birthday club as well as Council of Catholic Women (CCW), including serving as President. She was honored as the CCW Woman of the Year at St. Mary Magdalene. Her faith and commitment to serving others were an important part of her life. She was also apart of many women's groups through the area of Catholic Church's , such as St. Ray's, St. Paul's, , St Joe's and St. Cyril's. She loved to attend the luncheon to socialize;
Marie also worked as an administrative assistant for the Sisters of St. Francis, where her caring nature and dedication were greatly valued. She enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and especially loved playing pinochle, a favorite pastime that brought her many hours of laughter, friendship, and good-natured competition. Always looking for a bargain, she loved shopping at local thrift stores. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships she made.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Shroba; her son, Michael Shroba; her parents, Earl and Margaret Pleski; and her brothers, Robert Pleski and Raymond Pleski.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Stephen Shroba, David Shroba (Jennifer), Mary Kay Ruettiger (Mark), Jean Czart (George), and and daughter in law Kimberley Shroba; her grandchildren, Christopher Shroba (Alexandra), Kate Shroba, Eliza Shroba, Brittany (Michael) Richmond, Jacob Shroba, Lauren Shroba, Madison Shroba, Matt (Chiara) Ruettiger, Joshua (Jenna) Ruettiger, Kyle (Jordan) Ruettiger, Cassie (Matt) Monahan, Jenna Czart, and Julia Czart; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia Richmond, Lucas Richmond, and Mark Ruettiger.
Marie’s greatest joy was her family, and she treasured the time she spent with them. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, service, friendship, and devotion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebrations of Marie's life will be held with visitation on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL.
Visitation will continue on Friday, September 25, 2026 at the funeral home from 8:30 am to 10:15 am departing shortly after for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 201 S. Briggs St, Joliet, IL with burial to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL with a 1:00 pm committal shelter service.
