Mario C. Manzo

May 12, 1952 — August 23, 2025

Joliet

Mario C. Manzo of Joliet, age 73, passed away unexpectedly in his home on August 23, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1952 in Mexico to his father Javier Manzo and his mother Olivia Manzo (née Contreras).

Mario married his wife Nelida and the two of them together raised their two children in Joliet for decades. He retired from Railway & Industrial Services Inc., where he worked for thirty-six years as a welder. He was his own person through and through, living life with a spirit no one could ever change. Mario enjoyed spending time with friends at the local taverns, where there was always good company, laughter, and conversation. He especially loved being with his grandchildren, who brought him great joy. Many mornings, he could be found at the local park, starting the day by catching up with old friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Javier and Olivia Manzo.

Mario is survived by his wife Nelida Manzo (née Cardenas); his children Javier Manzo and Vanessa (Martin) Reyes; his grandchildren Alejandro, Edgar, Nicolas, and Angel; and his siblings Jaime (Rachel) Manzo, Jorge (Nelida) Manzo, Gerber (Martha) Manzo, Hugo (the late Soledad) Manzo, Gabriel (Fabiola) Manzo, Susi (Angel) Ornelas, and Mireya Manzo. Many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and loved ones, too numerous to name, also survive.

Per Mario’s wishes, all services were held privately and cremation rites accorded. Mario’s remains will be held in the protective custody of his loving family for the foreseeable future. Arrangements were entrusted to Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL 60435.
