Mary Jean Jaskowiak (née Weeditz), lifelong resident of Joliet at age 83, passed away in the presence of her loving family at Eden Vista of Rock Run in Joliet on January 2, 2026. Mary Jean was born the daughter of Edward Weeditz and Frances Weeditz (née Rachor) on September 5, 1942 in Joliet, IL.
Mary Jean was born, raised, and educated in Joliet, and she was proud to have been a lifelong member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church Congregation. She was a dedicated to her faith, her family, and her community. She spent twenty-six years of her life as a baker in the cafeteria at Joliet Central High School. Before her husband Bob passed in 2018, the two of them enjoyed visiting the area gambling boats for a little entertainment. While her health declined rapidly over the past year, Mary Jean received great care, and her family will cherish the “good days” that they were able to spend with her recently alongside the great years that they spent together throughout their lifetimes. They will miss her dearly, but take some small measure of solace in the certainty that she is once again healthy and happy in the arms of her husband and son.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Frances; her beloved husband of fifty-four years Robert James “Bob” Jaskowiak; and her dear son Joel Andrew Jaskowiak.
Mary Jean is survived by her son Steve (Marian) Jaskowiak; her grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Jaskowiak and Claire (Taylor) Jaskowiak; and her siblings Elaine Lawnzak, Paul Weeditz, and Mark Weeditz.
