Norman Duane Campbell Jr’s sunrise was June 25th 1971 at 6:23 a.m. to Norman Campbell Sr. and Theresa Holden Phillips in Joliet IL. His sunset, while surrounded by family and friends, was March 31st 2024 5:58 p.m. at Lightways Hospice after a monumental fight against colon cancer.

Norman Duane Campbell Jr. was the first-born son of Norman Campbell Sr. and Theresa Holden Phillips in Joliet IL. Norman Duane Campbell Jr. was a lifelong resident of Joliet. He graduated from Joliet Central Highschool. Distinguishing himself early on as a talented athlete, excelling as a standout out All-State baseball centerfielder and All-State football defensive linebacker. His passion extended beyond the high school sports. To the pro teams. He was a huge fan of the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls. His commitment to excellence did not stop at sports. After his high school graduation, he chose to serve his country by enlisting in the US Navy. His service was marked by bravery and sacrifice, as he became a war veteran while stationed aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier. As one of the first servicemen to see battle in the Persian Gulf War, he demonstrated the same courage and determination that he had shown on the athletic fields. He gave his life to God at an early age. He was baptized March 10th 2024 reaffirming his faith. He was a strong family man and loyal to the end friend. He was a people person. He would always keep you laughing and energized with endless jokes, a wild character and vivid stories. He would go without so that others could have. Most importantly to him was his children. He was often called a Kobe dad. As he went above and beyond for his children. Kourtney and Cameron are his legacy. We know he will continue to watch over them. With the help of Jonte and Chantell in Heaven. Norman's memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as we carry forward the lessons and love he imparted. This diamond will be missed.

 His charisma and memory live forever. Norman (Duane) was preceded in death by his grandparents Curtis and Sylvia Holden of Joliet, IL and Emma and Hansel Campbell, of Decatur, MS: Jonte Jarrell Dorsey (son), Chantell Nicole Campbell (Norman Jr and Lidia’s daughter). Along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Norman (Duane) was survived by: Theresa Holden-Phillips (mother), Norman Sr. and Linda Campbell ( father and mother) , Antina Campbell (Sister) Family: Jermey and Olivia Ellis ( nephew, grand niece) Jazmine Graham (niece) David Campbell (brother) Family: Kelly, Brycen, Jordan Campbell (sis-In-law, nephew, niece), Amanda Phillips (sister), Lidia Acosta (soulmate) and their children, Kourtney Campbell (daughter) and Cameron Campbell (son), Journie Dorsey (Granddaughter) Dejah Chandler (step- granddaughter), Tisha Presnall, Malcom Campbell (sister) Family: Ny ’Kia, Nigel, Nelson Presnall (nephews and nieces). Along with 10 grand nieces and nephews. Kartika Womack (sister) Family: Lamont, Antionette Pearis, Renisaj Colliers (nephews and nieces). Deidra Campbell (sister) Along with a host of cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorial visitation was held on Saturday, April 13th, 2024 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. Cremation services were held in accordance with his wishes and his final rest will be held privately.
