Philip J. Alberico Jr.

Philip J. Alberico Jr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2026, with his loving wife by his side.

Phil will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Mary Ann (nee Kunke) Alberico; his son, Philip M. Alberico Sr. (fiancé Elizabeth Watmough); and his daughter, Cynthia A. Schultz (partner Carl Scherer).

He was the proud grandfather of Philip M. Alberico Jr.; Kevin J. (Stephanie Ramos) Alberico; Justin N. (Gabbi) Alberico; Kailyn (Eric) Winnestaffer; and Chelsea (Matthew) Halloran. He is also survived by his siblings, William (Cindy) Alberico and Frank Alberico; brother-in-law, Raymond (the late Nancy) Butscher; and many nieces and nephews, including Ray (Veronica) Butscher, Amy (Ed) Fix, Joseph (Kim) Butscher, Dawn (Kenny) Dupree, William Alberico, Jamie (Brett) Haake, and Stephanie Alberico.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Sr. and Santina (nee Pera) Alberico; his mother and father-in-law, Matthew and Mary Kunke; his brother, Richard Alberico; son-in-law, Peter J. Schultz; and niece and nephew, Jeanette Grenke and Matthew Kunke.

Phil was a graduate of the Rockdale public school system and J.T. Central High School. He dedicated 30 years of his career to Caterpillar Co., followed by 10 years working with Remco Medical and J.D. Brown.

Outside of work, Phil was happiest when he was involved in the things he loved. He was an avid baseball coach for many years with St. Joseph Baseball, where he enjoyed sharing his love of the game with his son. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, Phil also enjoyed mini stock car racing (car #21) at Joliet Stadium. He was a member of the Dale AC and enjoyed bowling, spending time with his beloved dogs, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and cruising around with Mary Ann in their Corvettes.

Above all, Phil cherished his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and rarely missed an opportunity to be there for them. Whether cheering from the sidelines at their sporting events, spending time together, or simply enjoying a day with his loved ones, Phil's greatest joy was being with his family.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
