Rex N. Holloway, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Joliet, Illinois. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graduate of Joliet Central High School, Rex was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix just about anything. Before retiring, he spent his years rehabbing houses for various realtors, putting his skills, hard work, and hands-on know-how to good use. There was little Rex couldn’t figure out how to repair, and his ability to make things work again was one of the many things that made him special.
When Rex wasn’t busy fixing something, he enjoyed relaxing with his favorite cowboy movies. Those who knew him may fondly remember him cruising around in his beloved yellow Jeep, a little piece of him that will never be forgotten. One of his greatest joys was the companionship of his four-legged buddy, Misty, who held a special place in his heart.
Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Virginia (nee Wetzel) Holloway, and his cousin, Pat McDermott Holloway.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life and best friend of 22 years, Mary Conley, who shared a special bond with Rex built on love, friendship, and countless memories. He is also survived by his children, IvyJean Steinhoff, Ryan (Sheila) Holloway, and Jason Holloway; and his beloved grandchildren, Savannah Steinhoff and Adalyn Steinhoff.
Rex also leaves behind Mary’s children, who loved him deeply and considered him an important part of their lives: Christina (Mike) Stryisik, James (Tina) Kilgore, and Holly Hogg and her partner, Brandon Crockett. He will also be lovingly remembered by Mary’s grandchildren, Autumn Stryisik, Brett Stryisik, Ashley Stryisik, Maddie Kilgore, Caleb Kilgore, Paxton Hogg, Hayden Hogg, and Brinlee Hogg, as well as his good buddy, Shirley Teece.
He is also survived by his sister; Linda Hunter and Roxanne Holloway.
Rex leaves behind a legacy of hard work, a knack for fixing just about anything, a love for the simple pleasures in life, and the lasting memories he created with the people who meant the most to him. His presence will be missed more than words can express, but the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
May Rex find peaceful roads ahead, with a cowboy movie playing and his beloved yellow Jeep never far away. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lightways Hospice in Joliet for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided during this difficult time. Their thoughtfulness and dedication brought comfort to him and his loved ones, and for that, we are truly grateful.
Cremation rites will be in accordance with his wishes and burial will be held privately.
