Richard “Rich” Hodur passed away on September 9, 2026 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL, following a brief battle with cardiac and respiratory issues.
Rich attended both Michigan State University and Northern Illinois University, earning his Masters Degree in Education and many additional hours of continuing education. He went on to teach Earth Science and coach football at Joliet Central HS and Joliet West HS for 35 years. Following his retirement, Rich began teaching Earth Science as an Adjunct Professor at Moraine Valley Community College.
He loved the 21 years he taught at Moraine and received praise from students and colleagues regarding his teaching style, creativity and fairness. He so enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of the Earth and mentored students who planned to pursue careers in the Earth Science and Geology fields. In his personal life, Rich enjoyed watching football, antiquing, road trips, and local festivals as well as fishing with friends. He was a loyal Chicago Bears fan and critic. He was generous with his assets and time, always willing to lend a hand or an opinion.
Rich’s wish was to be cremated with no visitation or service. Donations can be made to Moraine Valley Community College Physical Sciences Dept. in his memory.
