Rita R. Cherven (nee Johnston), 77 of Joliet passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025
Rita enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing games on her phone, cheering on her favorite NASCAR drivers, and heading to the bowling alley. Trips to Las Vegas with her dear friend Betty were among her favorite adventures. Above all, Rita treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bert Sr. and Marion L. (nee Shiffer) Johnston, , and her daughter-in-law, Lori Lynn Cherven.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 56 years, Thomas R. Cherven Sr., and their children: Thomas R. (late Lori Lynn) Cherven Jr. and Doug W. Cherven (Jennifer). She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Michael (Stephanie) Cherven, Daniel Cherven, Kevin (Allison) Cherven, Jason Cherven, Samantha (Joey) Sliwa, Maggie (Anthony) Brockett, Robert Brockett, Kevin Brockett, and Gabbi (Drew) Brockett, as well as her great-grandsons Peter and Henry Sliwa.
Rita is also survived by her siblings: Sharon Lehman, Bert (Jean) Johnston Jr., Jeff Johnston, and Frank (Laura) Johnston; and by her nieces and nephews: Bill Lehman, Amber (Chris, Dominick, Lexi) Kircher, Courtney (Randy III, Bubby) Dennison and Carli Johnston.
Rita will be remembered for her warm heart, her lively spirit, and the deep love she held for her family. Her presence will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
A celebration of Rita’s life will be held with a memorial visitation on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Arrangements entrusted to Tezak Funeral Home 1211 Plainfield Road Joliet, IL. 60435 www.tezakfuneralhome.com At his request cremation rites were accorded.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Rita’s name may be made Cornerstone Services of Joliet.
