Rita Ann Orzechowski

October 15, 1931 — December 7, 2020

Rita Ann Orzechowski, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7th, 2020 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home.

Rita is survived by her brother-in-law Thomas Lerner, Sr., her many nieces and nephews, and dozens of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Orzechowski; parents Joseph and Clara (nee Malewicki) Dorski; sister Mary (nee Dorski) Lerner; and infant brother Eugene Dorski.

Rita was active with the Legion of Mary and was formerly a member of the choir at Assumption Church in Chicago. Devout in her Catholic faith, Rita volunteered for the Women of the Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed singing and would often encourage others to sing along with her. She loved animals and had an uncanny knack for training them, like her beloved parakeet Petey. Rita will be most fondly remembered for being a kind and loving sister and aunt who brought joy to everyone she met.

Services for Rita will begin on Wednesday, December 9th, 2020 at Tezak Funeral Home with a visitation being held from 4pm to 8pm. The services will continue the following day, Thursday, December 10th, 2020 beginning at Tezak Funeral Home at 9:00 am until Chapel Prayers at 10:00, then traveling in procession to Saint Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial, arriving at 10:30 for mandatory COVID protocol with the funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am. Rita will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made out to the American Cancer Society.
