Rose M. Prieboy

December 30, 1946 — July 30, 2025

Joliet

Rose Marie Prieboy, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at her residence with her daughters by her side, after facing the challenges of dementia with grace and resilience for many years.

Born on December 30, 1946, in Joliet, Illinois, Rose was the daughter of Ernst Egger and Rose S. Egger (née DeNardo). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard S. Prieboy Sr.; her parents; her brother, Felix Deltonto; her sister, Marie Blahut (née Deltonto); and her grandson, Leonard S. Prieboy III.

She is survived by her children, Leonard Jr. (Jennifer) Prieboy, Angela (Jeramie) Hass, and Amy (Rudolph Jr.) Bohland. She will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren - Madelynn, Aiden, Rudolph III, Lucas, and Leonard- as well as her sister, Angeline Plese, and her very special niece Lynda McCarthy, whom she loved dearly.

Affectionately known to many as “Cookie”, a nickname lovingly given by her father, Rose was known for her generous spirit, sharp wit, and deep kindness.

Rose embarked on a professional journey that was as diverse as one could imagine. Rose began as a secretary and did clerical work for many small businesses in her younger years. She then obtained her real estate license and began to sell houses. While selling real estate, Rose went back to school again and took classes on tax preparation and bookkeeping. She took a job as the bookkeeper for Joliet Public Schools District #86 and held that position for over 30 years. During her time as a bookkeeper, she continued to prepare taxes for over one hundred clients and small businesses in the area. Though her plate was quite full, with family life (making sure that everyone always had a delicious home cooked meal, their clothes washed and ironed, reading and crocheting), she took an interest in decorating cakes. Anyone that knew her, knew she could bake… but now she could decorate. It became a side job that brought her great pride. She made hundreds of cakes for all occasions.

Rose was a dedicated member of her church, St. Anthony’s in Joliet, where she served on the parish board and held the position of president for multiple terms. She was also active in the East Will Deanery Council of Catholic Women and was honored as “Woman of the Year” several times by St. Anthony’s.

Above all else, Rose loved spending time with her family. She and her husband Lenny shared a beautiful bond- more than just a marriage, theirs was a true partnership marked by laughter, support, and unwavering love. Together, they enjoyed dancing, riding in Dad’s antique cars, playing cards and pool, and reminiscing with friends.

Rose also treasured time with her children and grandchildren, it didn’t matter what they did, she made every moment special. Simply put, she was the best.

In accordance with Rose and Lenny’s wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be mixed with his. Their remains will be scattered by the family in a location meaningful to them both. Per Rose’s request, no wake or funeral will be held. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
