In Loving Memory of Sharon Margaret York
Sharon Margaret York, age 80, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Frankfort, IL surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 1, 1946 in Chicago, IL, Sharon was the beloved daughter of Robert Russell Hanes and Margaret Francis Hanes (née Brown). She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be remembered for her fierce kindness, generous heart, and unwavering love and dedication to her family.
Loving mother of Debbie (TJ) Boulden, Denise (Allan) Gilbert, Darren (Karen) York, Danny II (Christine) York and Cathy (Thomas) Dovidio. Sharon is also survived by her grandchildren; Monica, Daniel, Josh, Zach, Sydney, Jacob, Ashley, Danny III, Eden, Emma, Andrew, Julia, Lauren, Brady, and Ayanna and great-grandchildren; Cecelia, Isabella, Dominic, Braxton, Sadie, Annie, Liam, Ellie, Molly, Michael, and Elliot.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings; Dave and Nora Hanes.
Throughout her life, Sharon was an avid gardener and homemaker and enjoyed spending her free time outside with loved ones. A devout Catholic, Sharon’s faith was an important part of who she was and guided her throughout her life. Sharon showed great pride and determination in her work, beginning as a secretary and advancing to managing many multifamily homes in Joliet.
Above all, Sharon’s greatest accomplishment was the love she gave to her family. Her kindness, strength, faith, and devotion created a lasting legacy that will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Though she will be deeply missed, Sharon’s love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a gift to her family, and her memory will continue to live on through the many lives she touched and the generations she leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Visitation on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL 60435. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (St. Mary Magdalene) 201 S. Briggs St. Joliet. Following Mass, Sharon will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2755 W. 111 St. Chicago, IL.
