Shirley K. Imrie, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Shirley is survived by her children, Mike (LuAnn) Imrie and Patti (Tom) Norman; grandchildren, Matt (Laura) Imrie, Megan (Daniel) Budzynski, MaryKate (Alex) Robbins, Michael (Lindsay) Imrie, and Maureen (Jacob Carley) Imrie, Tom (Jenny) Norman, Tim (Cassi) Norman and Dan (Megan) Norman; great-grandchildren, Presley, Charley, Finnick, Imrie, Shaelyn, Jameson, Spencer, Jett, Connor, McKenna, Annie and Cameron.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard “Red” Imrie (2019); parents, James and Sophie (nee Kompare) Miller; sister, Marianne (David) Lennox.
Shirley was a lifelong member of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church. A proud graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1955, she went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1958. Shirley dedicated 30 years of compassionate service as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.
She was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan who cheered for her team through every season. In her later years, Shirley found comfort and joy in watching Little House on the Prairie, which became a favorite pastime. She and Red shared many happy memories together on their senior gambling trips. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s sporting events during their youth.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Sunny Hill would be appreciated.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
