Stephen E. Pillar, age of 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his residence in Paris, TN. He was born January 4, 1930, in Joliet, IL, the son of the late John and Anna Pilar. He met his wife Gloria in December of 1951 spending 68 years of marital bliss prior to her passing in 2019. He enjoyed being outdoors walking, bike riding, fishing, traveling, and time with family and friends at the Braidwood Recreation Club. His greatest times were spent with family, especially his grandson and great grandchildren. In 2019, Stephen moved to Paris, TN to be closer to his son, grandson, and great grandchildren. Stephen was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean War. Stephen retired from Caterpillar about 30 years ago.
Stephen is survived by his beloved son Mark (Lorraine) Pillar; grandson, Doug (Nicole) Pillar; and great grandchildren, Ava and Easton Pillar. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; his parents, John and Anna Pilar; his five brothers, John (Frances), Joseph (Dorothy), George (Eleanor), Tony (Dorothy), Edward (Phyllis), and one sister, Margaret (John) Lucenta.
Per Stephen’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28th, 2024 at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. The funeral will then drive in procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood for a 12:00 p.m. committal service. Any guest who wishes to attend the committal service are requested to arrive no later than 11:45 a.m.Thursday, March 28, 2024
