Teresa Piskur (née Alvarado) age 51, was born February 7, 1974, at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet to her father Abel Alvarado Sr. and her mother Marie Alvarado (née Frausto). She was a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL until she passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2025 at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care. Teresa was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year. She fought bravely, relying on her spirit, heart, and faith. Despite how boundless her spirit and faith were, the cancer would not be defeated.
Teresa started her career at Verizon Wireless. However, her greatest work was done while working at the Will County Treasurer’s Office. She started as a cashier, and then, over the span of 20 plus years, she rose through the ranks to become Chief Treasury Officer. Throughout the County building, she cemented herself as a kind, driven, and knowledgeable person. Anyone that enters the building today would likely run into someone who knew and worked with Teresa. However, her impact goes far beyond the County in which she lived and worked.
Teresa was an avid volunteer, who always believed in the power of prayer and giving back. She was an active member of the Queen of Apostles Parish (formerly Saint Paul’s), going to mass regularly and donating when she could. Additionally, she was heavily involved with both the local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America organizations.
For over a decade, she was an integral part of both scouting organizations. In Girl Scouts, she planned field trips, community service events and provided girls with leadership opportunities. Meanwhile, in Boy Scouts she acted as a backbone to the inner workings of the troop. Ensuring the troop ran smoothly, so the boys could learn and grow. She acted as a mentor figure, molding young minds and helping boys and girls become respectful and resourceful young men and women.
Teresa was a shining star that improved everything and everyone she touched. She will be greatly missed but will continue to live on through our memories and love for her.
Teresa was preceded in death by her father Abel Alvarado Sr., and father-in-law Thomas Piskur.
She is survived by her mother Marie Alvarado (née Frausto), her mother-in-law Mary Braun, her devoted husband Greg Sr., her children Gregory, Anna, and Tyler Piskur, her siblings Angelica Dean, Abel Alvarado Jr. and Guadalupe Alvarado, her nephews and nieces Tristan and Gabrielle Dean, and Ariadne and Alexander Alvarado, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and other loved ones.
