+V. REV. ARCHPRIEST-STAVROFOR NEDELJKO LUNICH

V. Rev. Nedeljko “Ned” Lunich, age 85, reposed in the Lord on Friday, January 12, 2024 in Joliet, Illinois. Born January 23, 1938 in Drnis, Dalmacija, former Yugoslavia, he graduated from the Theological School in Beograd, Serbia and emigrated to the USA in 1963. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1965 and received his master’s degree from The University of Detroit, Michigan in 1967. He served in Detroit, Michigan; East Chicago-Schererville, Indiana; and then for 40 years in Joliet from 1974 until retirement in 2014.

Rev. Lunich served in many capacities in the Serbian Orthodox Church – Midwest Metropolitanate: Awarded the highest priestly rank of Protopresbyter Stavrofor. Decorated by the St. Sava Order of the Second Degree. Served as Bishop’s Deputy and Dean of Chicago Deanery, from 1998 until present time.

Preceded in death by parents Dusan and Anica (Besevic) Lunic, and sisters Milka (+Spiro) Milakovic and Jelka (+Marinko) Cajic. Survived by son Stevan Lunich, daughter Neda (Mike) Bilder; grandchildren Gabriella (Trey Michael Longnecker) Lunich and Aleksandra Lunich, and Stella and Michael Bilder; sisters Dara (+Tode) Krasic, Stana (+Rev. Svetozar) Jovicin, and Danica (+Marko) Vukovic; numerous nieces and nephews in USA and in former Yugoslavia.

Wake will be in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 300 Stryker Ave, Joliet, Illinois from 2-7 PM on Sunday January 21, 2024, with Pomen Prayer Service at 4 PM.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 22, 2024 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Joliet: The Holy Liturgy at 8 AM, Funeral Service at 10 AM,
Interment at St. Sava Monastery Cemetery, 32377 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Libertyville, Illinois at 3:30 PM.
