Winifred C. (nee Ward) Decman "Winnie" (Nee Ward), age 85, recently of Murfreesboro, TN died Saturday, October 20, 2005, at home with her family by her side.

She was born May 31, 1920 in Joliet and was a lifelong resident. She is survived by one son, David Decman of Mystic, CT; four daughters, Veronica (George) Maertin of Savage, MN, Lois (Walter) Steffes of Champaign, IL, Anna Marie (David) Hart of Murfreesboro, TN, and Barbara Decman (fiance Robert DePratt) of Wilmington, IL; 16 grandchildren, Sonya Decman, Kelly (fiance Jeff Dreger), Scott (Jennifer) and Kathryn Maertin, Suzanne Brockett, Bridget (Anh) To, Christy (Steve) Widlak, Cynthia (Michael) Miley, Pamela Steffes, Sarah (Jeremy) Mouw, Asa, Josiah, Jared and Rachel Hart, Timothy and Elizabeth Maticic; 14 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Bernadine (late John) Ukovich, Verna (late George) Papesh, Rita (late Norman) Patterson and Eunice Ward; and one sister-in-law, Therese Ward. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin L. Decman (1981); parents, Edward and Theresa (nee Aschenbrenner) Ward; one sister, Lorraine (late Valentine) Papesh; and two brothers, Lloyd and Harold (late Irene) Ward.

She retired from Marshall Fields after 15 years of service. Previously she was known locally as a seamstress especially for her talents in making formal draperies. She was a member of Cantigny Post, Ladies Auxiliary #367, Joliet Ladies of the Moose, and St. Raymond's Council of Catholic Women.

Donations for masses would be appreciated or memorials directed to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

A celebration of Winifred's life will begin on Thursday, October 27, 2005 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Romeoville.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Tezak Funeral Home (1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL) from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
