Diane M. (Salopek) Govednik

Diane M. Govednik (nee Salopek), age 89, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Diane is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William F. Govednik (5-11-2007); parents, John and Anna (nee Bokolich) Salopek; brothers, John (Josephine) Salopek, Mike (Mary) Salopek, John (Philomena) Prebeg and Milan Prebeg; sisters, Rose (Vincent) Kennerty, Katherine (Frank) Salopek Ament, Mary (Joseph) Prebeg Bozicevich, Catherine (Ceasar) Prebeg Bartolomei and Ann (Raymond) Prebeg Brenczewski.

Survived by her four children, William Michael, Kathleen Ann (the late Brent) Gunier, Paul Joseph and Mark John (Linda) Govednik; Laurie Govednik; ten grandchildren, Scott (Beth) Govednik, Mark (Olivia) Govednik, Colleen (Steve) Russell, Raymond Gunier, Carrie (Drew) Harth, Crystal Gunier, Gail Govednik, Lauren Govednik, Joseph (Brittany) Govednik and Jake Govednik; great-grandchildren, Canon Russell, Callie Russell, Mason Russell, Keira Govednik, Kyla Govednik, Rae Lyn Govednik, Cheyenne Gunier, Owen Govednik, Beckham Govednik and Wrenley Govednik; one brother, Steve Salopek; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (John) Mahan and Barbara (Joseph) Govednik; many nieces and nephews

Diane was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. She was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society, serving as the membership secretary. Diane was also a member of St. Joseph Seniors, St. Genevieve Society, Slovenian Union of America, and the Senior Citizens Association. She was formerly chosen St. Joseph C.C.C. Woman of the Year as well as the Slovenian Women’s Union- Woman of the Year.

In lieu of flowers, donations to, St. Joseph Church, the American Cancer Society or for masses to be said in her name would be appreciated.

A celebration of Diane’s life will begin on Wednesday, January 13, 2020 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions no more than 25 guests will be allowed in the funeral home at one time and 75 guest at the church. Face masks and social distancing required.
