Helen (Czochara) Augustyniak

December 2, 1925 — January 3, 2021

Helen Veronica Augustyniak

Born: December 2, 1925; in Chicago, IL

Died: January 3, 2021; in Joliet, IL

Helen Veronica Augustyniak (nee Czochara), age 95, passed away peacefully from complications of sepsis with family by her side.

Preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Veronica (Kruch) Czochara; beloved husband of 56 years, Roman August (2005); siblings, Stanley (Rose) Czochara, Mary “Mae” (Walter) Malinowski; Joseph (Dorothy), and Eddie (Eleanor) Czochara.

Helen is survived by and the loving mother of Theresa (Larry Feldt) Augustyniak; Phyllis (David) Kelly, and Ralph (Sheri) Augustyniak; cherished grandmother of Joseph and Angel Augustyniak; dear aunt and fond great-aunt of numerous nephews, nieces and their families; treasured friend of many.

She was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from Five Holy Martyrs School.  In her youth, she loved to roller skate and play outdoors with neighborhood friends.  During WWII, she dutifully worked for Sinch supporting our troops.  On October 30, 1948, she married the love of her life at Five Holy Martyrs Church, and honeymooned in New Orleans, LA.  She then devoted her life to her family. She kept a lovely home, cooked delicious meals (especially Polish dishes), and raised her children well.  She adored animals, particularly dogs, and was talented in their training.  In her golden years, she enjoyed seeing the Rockette’s Christmas Shows, Riverdance, and shopping “Super Sunday’s” on State Street at Fields and Carson’s on “Senior Wednesday’s”. In recent years, Helen was pleased to be living with her son and his family, which enabled her to attend Mass weekly. She relished watching her grandchildren grow up, participating in their activities, and witnessing their achievements.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. R.W. Schubert, his assistant, Sam, visiting nurse Lynn Laurich, RN, and Sue Duda for their kind, compassionate care over the last few years. It will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet; the Will County Humane Society; or a charity of the donor’s choice with much appreciation.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet.
