Obituary

James Louis Stalzer

Age 88 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at StoryPoint in Romeoville.

Born November 7, 1934 in Joliet, James was the son of Louis and Helen (Terlep) Stalzer. He was raised and educated in Joliet and went on to work as a laborer for Local 75 until retirement. James was a devout Catholic who possessed a strong work ethic. He was a true patriot to his country, and a die-hard baseball fan, specifically the Chicago White Sox. James knew everything there was to know about the game of baseball. He will be remembered for his generosity, infectious personality, sense of humor, being the life of the party, and caring for others. James loved his Harley and loved his dogs: Oliver, Molly, Pheobe and Etta even more. His proudest accomplishment was getting to be a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James is survived by his daughter: Jamie (Ted) Brodeur; grandchildren: Lauren (Brett) Stengele, Cody Hakey and Kennedy Hakey; great-grandchildren: Brogan, Malakai and Samuel Stengele, and step-daughters: Anna Albrecht and Margaret “Meg” Ferguson.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Helen Stalzer; sister: Joan A. (Bernard) Tkaczyk, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregivers: Maria Koss, Phillia Mitchell, Gabby Wise and Monica Murphy, as well as the wonderful staff at StoryPoint and Suncrest Hospice.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The funeral will then drive in procession to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway Street in Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow and James will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
