“Larry” “Popeye”

Age 93, passed away peacefully in Gilbert, AZ on February 29, 2020, surrounded by his children.

Larry is survived by his children, Lauren Wicevic, Russell (Patricia) Wicevic, Nancy Gross, Catherine (Rick) Cambere and Marie Nichols; grandchildren Vito (Leah), Adrian and Jasmine Wicevic, Bernard (Jenny) and Benjamin Gross, Claire (Alex) King and Carmel Nichols; his great grandchildren Wyatt, Emma and Liam Gross; Jaxson King, sister-in-law Grace Fazio and life-long friend Bob Churnovic. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rose (Malnar) and Lawrence Wicevic, his beloved wife of 60 years Congetta (Lazzaro) Wicevic, sisters Vera (John) Senffner, Josephine (Victor) Wicevic, Mathilda (John) Hankovcak, Marie Pilon and one cousin Edward Malnar.

Larry was born in Crest Hill and resided in Joliet most of his life. He loved to swim and spent a great deal of time at Chaney Pool in his youth, working as a lifeguard. He and Connie began visiting Arizona in the early 70’s and fell in love with the state, eventually purchasing a home there in 1979. He was a proud veteran of the US Army WWII serving in the Philippines and was awarded a Purple Heart.

For all those that knew Larry, he was one of a kind! A loyal friend, devoted husband and loving father to his children and grandchildren. Larry was fearless and lived life to the fullest. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.
