Mildred (Grubisich) Skoryi, 94, passed away on April 12, 2023 after a brief hospital stay.
Mildred (Millie) was born in 1929 and was the fourth child of a family of ten children. She attended Fairmont Grade School and graduated from Lockport High School. Millie was a retiree from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet. She was an active member of the Joliet St. George Serbian Church and the St. George Serbian Kolo Club. Millie was an avid baker and especially enjoyed making her potica sweetbread recipe during the holiday seasons.
Preceded in death by her husband John Skoryi, mother Eva (Burian) Grubisich, father Vaso Grubisich; sisters: Mary (Irvin) Schroeder, Helen Grubisich; brothers: Dushan (Milka) Grubisich, and Michael Grubisich and her daughter Mary Ann.
Millie is survived by daughter Susan (Richard) Brown and four sons, John (Elizabeth) Skoryi, David (Debra) Skoryi, Keith (Kathy) Skoryi, and Richard Skoryi. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Sophie Chuk, Dollie (Jack) Book, Martha (Robert) Vuicich; brothers: Ely Grubisich and Peter Grubisich and numerous nieces , nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 P.M with Pomen services beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet.
Funeral services will begin at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church for a 11:00 a.m. funeral service presided by Fr. Aleksander Bugarin. Interment will follow and Millie will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Joliet St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.
