Samuel “Sammy” Cornejo

Age 40 of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at his home.

Born February 14, 1979 in Joliet, Sammy was a son of Felipe and Maria Concepcion (Reyes) Cornejo. He was raised and educated in Joliet. Sammy was the type of guy who would light up the room whenever he entered. He had an infectious smile that drew people in. He was a loyal friend and neighbor who was always willing to do anything that was asked of him. Sammy was a hard worker. He loved cheering on the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks. Sammy also loved soccer. He was a role model for his nieces, nephews and god children. Sammy’s pride and joy were his children whom he loved most of all. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents, Maria and Felipe; children: Sofia Elise Cornejo and Nathan Samuel Cornejo; longtime girlfriend and best friend: Michelle Hamdan; siblings: Maria (Arturo) Lopez, Joel Cornejo, Rosa (Gabriel) Cabrera, Ismael Cornejo and Elizabeth (Anthony) Disera, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sammy is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Emidio and Hermania Cornejo; maternal grandparents: Enrique and Maria Guadalupe (Lopez) Reyes, and aunt, Audelia Cornejo.

Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A Celebration of Sammy’s life will continue on Saturday, September 28, 2019 with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:20 a.m. and then driving in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at SS Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Joliet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Sammy’s memory to the family for his children’s future needs.
