Victor Glenn Calimee

July 11, 1949 — January 10, 2023

Victor G. Calimee born July 11, 1949, deceased January 10, 2023.  Pastor Victor Calimee was the eldest of eight children.  Born to J.C. Calimee of Homer, Louisiana and Ethelene Durr of Prentiss, Mississippi.  He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and St. De LaSalle High School in Chicago IL.

After De LaSalle H.S. Victor went to live with his grandparents Robert and Hester Durr of Prentiss, MS where he attended J.E. Johnson H.S. Where he displayed great talent in the sports arena.  He surpassed in every subject he undertook such as math, science, and sociology.  Afterwards he attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX.  There he earned a Master’s in Social Work while playing minor league baseball.

He was a natural youth leader.  Later coming back to Chicago, he became a director at the Chicago Boys Club.  He possessed a very high IQ.  He was unique in every field he entered.  He played pool, chess, baseball, basketball, and martial arts.  Singing and creating music were two of his favorite past times.  While in school he was one of the top debaters in college.  He travelled around with his debate team, scoring countless victories.  This skill would later be used in preaching.  He was a great orator.

Victor’s love of the bible was also awe-inspiring.  He knew and understood the heart of God.  It was once said of him that Vic believes what is written in the bible; if it’s in there he believes it and lives by it.  He also established an electrical and construction business call Light Electric in Joliet, IL.  His hard work and fair prices earned him a very loyal customer base with fellow contractors until his health failed him in 2020.

Victor walked as a living epistle who was read by thousands of people.  He is survived by one daughter Tonika Rutledge-Whisenton (Aaron) and two grandchildren (Daniel & Camillle) of Mendota, IL. that he loved more than life itself.  This obituary is a humble attempt to capture only a few of the highlights of this great man whose life reflected the meaning of his name. The name Victor means a mighty warrior and conqueror.

He leaves behind his sister Vivian Foster (Wayne) of Sacramento, CA., brother John Calimee (Rich) of Dekalb, IL., brother Cecil Calimee of Moreno, CA., brother Gerald Calimee of Harvey, IL., and brother Pastor Vincent Calimee of Virginia. Proceeded in death: brothers Martin Calimee (Wanda) and Raun Calimee.  He also leaves behind a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews, business partners, Classmates in Mississippi and Texas as well as  precious close clergy associates.

Poem by Wayne Foster

Our branch is fallen from the family tree

I always hear your voice saying

“Whatcha gotta a taste for?  I want to eat.”

We all remember so good, so bad, so happy, so sad

But everything was actually the bon bon vie

It was a good life for you and me

We were laughing with dancing while singing your

Favorite song “Return of the Mack.”

Brings back all those old school memories

The life you lived was so strong

For your family, friends, is where it belonged

You helped so many people

Old and young

Now you’ve gone home to be with my Lord

I know you miss me as I miss you

As I smile the sun shines in the spirit

I am with you always and forever

So, keep your chin up our day together has come to pass

We’re all winners in this game of life

Eternity in life is slowly moving fast

Until we speak always stay blessed
