Age 95 of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Born June 20, 1928, Bill was a son of Steven and Cele Stukel. He was raised and educated in Joliet and following his time in school, he married Ms. Shirley Whalen in 1948. Together they made a home and raised their family. Bill was the proud owner of Bowl-Rite Bowling Supply which then transitioned into Bill Stukel’s World of Sports (Bowl-Rite). Being the entrepreneur that he was, Bill then went on to own and operate the Arnold Palmer Putting Course. After his time working in sporting goods, Bill worked for Heritage Bank in Crest Hill, Chicago Title & Trust, served on the Will County Board, and lastly obtained his realtors license and worked for Ray O’Connor Realtors for a number of years until retiring.

He was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield. Bill was also a member and past president of the Joliet Noon Lions Club. His most treasured times were spent with his family. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years: Shirley; son and daughter-in-law: Dan and Jane Stukel; grandchildren: Jennifer (Larry) Baczak, Christopher Mahalik and Dawn Greer; great-grandchildren: Sophia Baczak and Cameron Baczak, and son-in-law: Robert (Mary Lou) Mahalik.

Bill is preceded in death by his daughter: Patty; parents: Steve and Cele, and brothers: Joseph “Joey” Stukel, Harry Stukel and Floyd Stukel.

Family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road in Joliet. A celebration of Bill’s life will continue on Monday, July 31, 2023 with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 Illinois Rte 59 in Plainfield. Interment will follow and Bill will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Romeoville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Bill’s memory to either St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church or Lightways Hospice Care in Joliet.
